Hood Canal

What a day. A friend and I drove to the Hood Canal to put in near Brinnon, Washington. Smoke from fires in Washington, B.C. and Oregon filled the air and only got worse the closer we got.
 
"How bad could it be (for us)," we thought, as we dropped into our kayaks and pushed off.
 
The colors of the landscape were wacky and everything looked flattened. We paddle along the shore and saw kingfishers, sea lions and sea stars.
 
It was worth it. But nature is resilient and delicate and we need to do better to protect it.
